Interior design starts with the client's vision, and this young couple wanted a family friendly environment where they could raise their growing family, as well as entertain a large extended family and many friends. Their ideal style was upscale elegance in the formal rooms and family friendly, low maintenance in the informal rooms.
Entrance Hall
The entrance hall summarizes how I try to combine family heirlooms, fine art and antiques with more transitional pieces to make the client's space personal and interesting. We added the raised panels and chair rail and a very fine textured linen wallpaper to make the space grander and more formal, while incorporating the clients grandmother’s antique sewing chests.
Living Room
Prior to the renovation, the clients had inherited and purchased several antiques and reproductions favoring a more traditional style so the goal was to use the existing pieces but to lighten, brighten and make the space more youthful while maintaining a degree of elegance.
Dining Room
The dining room features a Chippendale style table, serpentine mahogany sideboard and modern mirror which were the clients own. But, because the dining room is a transition space between formal and informal areas of the home, the wallpaper with a traditional medallion design in aqua and gold was used to enhance the flow between the spaces.
Back Hall
In the back hall, the entrance used most by the family, we played up the client's youthful and playful nature with a tan and cream chevron wallpaper.
