Clients bought their 8,000 sq ft home in 1999, had it professionally decorated but almost 20 years later they wanted a refresh. The challenge was to use their large collection of traditional furniture in the new transitional design rather than replace - without being dated or stuffy.
The starting point of this design was beautiful floral fabrics that reflected the beauty of home’s massive 3.5 acres of manicured grounds. After years of dark colors, heavy drapes and oriental rugs, the new look included simple window treatment, updated floor coverings and fabrics in a lighter color pallet of creams, blues and greens - all colors viewed from the abundant windows throughout the home.
Family Room
I love the contrast between traditional furniture, fabric and window treatment with the transitional linen wrapped coffee table and the FABULOUS modern paintings by Stanley Bate. We added a TV over the fireplace, new table lamps and two club chairs for additional seating. The end result is a more functional and comfortable room for relaxing and entertaining.
Garden Room
The view of the rear garden is spectacular and the room just called for this green bamboo lattice wallpaper from Kravet which brought the space to life.
Kitchen
Cheery and bright! Kitchen cabinets were very high quality but dated and had a 1980’s off white/yellow color. Rather than replace, we decided to paint a creamy white and splurge on a Taj Mahal quartzite counter.
We added two pendent lights over the island for visual interest and replaced dated hardware with brass knobs and pulls. Windsor style chairs and stools were replaced with more transitional seating and dated window treatment replaced with subtle cream and light blue stripe linen panels. Linear lighting over the dining table replaced a small dated chandelier.
