Chapel Hill home decorated by interior designer Katharine Kelly Rhudy.

Nature was the inspiration for this project, using colors found in nature, floral fabrics and nature inspired floors, wall coverings and art to bring the outside in.

This client sold their home in Virginia and relocated to an upscale retirement community in

Chapel Hill, NC. She wanted to downsize from a large formal home to something more relaxed and easy to maintain with a design that was peaceful and reminiscent of the colors found in nature.

Living Area

Intertwining earth and art and reminiscent of tree bark, the starting point for this space was the wool area rug in earthy greens and cream which contrast nicely with the dark hardwood floors. Sumptuous fabric and floral draperies add to the visual play in the space and ambient lighting was added with sconces, standing and table lamps to mimic natural light. Framed chinoiserie panels of birds, flowers and bamboo above the sofa add texture and interest.
